The site is representative of a different type of settlement, a tillage lease, in the early days, and associations with Frederick Roberts.
Stoneyfield was a tillage lease between Doungup and Minninup properties. In 1856, Frederick Roberts married Judith Ryan, and they subsequently had ten children. They later extended their property to include Locations 168 and 195 on Gynudup Brook. Masson built a limestone house.

The site has associations with James Paine, and Dr Lovegrove.
In 1853, James Paine and Ann McCourt leased 10,000 acres east of Gynudup Brook. In 1854, he employed Charles Properjohn, son of the deceased John. He increased his area of leased lands. In 1856, due to illness, his sister Frances came to live with the family. In 1860, Ann married Charles Lesarque. In 1861, Charles Properjohn married and went to farm ' The Capel Farm" which he had previously leased from his former employer Ann Paine. In 1868, Dr Thomas Lovegrove arrived as ship's surgeon on Tartar', and appointed to the position of Government Medical Officer in Bunbury. Within months he married Maude, the daughter of the Resident Magistrate George Eliot who 'owned' much of the land south of Bunbury. Lovegrove took up 5600 acres being Wellington location 41, from the old Capel Farm (WJ Roberts) to the Ludlow River, and called the property 'The Capel Farm". He had six children and was very 'in' with the establishment.

Constructed from 1863
The place has associations with Charles Higgins.
Only the Kitchen of the original building remains on site.
In 1863 Charles Higgins, brother of Henry, married Mary Gardiner, and established 'Maldon Farm". In 1868 Charles Higgins died when Mary was still expecting Sarah Ann. The place was until recently, owned by the great grand daughter, Elsie, and great grandson, Albert, who bred and trained horses. In 1991, Elsie died, and Jean Hayes (cousin by marriage,) inherited the share. She has since restored the homestead and bought surrounding properties including James Paines' 'Capel farm* which included the site of Kitty O'Brien's grave. The site of Kitty O'Brien's grave is at the existing entry into 'Maldon Farm'. Kitty O'Brien, was the former sweetheart of Dinny (Weaver Dennis) Connell, a TOL worker who worked for Roberts at North Capel Farm. She tragically burnt to death when lighting a fire.

Limestone construction. Corrugated iron roofs extending over the surrounding verandahs. Square form with central hallway. Double storey limestone additions connect to the original house via glass conservatory.
'Avoca' was built for 'Dugite' Layman. Ben Prowse was one of the largest landowners in the district before 1939, when he had bought 'Avoca' from the Layman estate and named it 'Rivervale'. Prowse married Esme Pidgeon. Ben Prowse's son James (Jim) now owns the property.

The place is significant for the association with George Dunkley, and the use of the local materials for construction.
Timber framed and clad.
George Dunkley was an Englishman who came from Melbourne to Bunbury, and then to work at the Stirling Estate in 1904. After applying for separate land allocations, he received land for himself, his wife Harriet, and daughter Sophia, Locations 80 and 85 which were connected by a bridge over the drain, near Fred Tuckers. Dunkley was in charge of digging the drains for the Stirling Estate. He built a log cabin, and later a timber house with timber from Summer's Ludlow Mill. Later they got more land. There was an explosion at another house which tragically killed one of Dunkley's daughters. Jim Johannsen lived in the house for many years, when he worked for Dunkley.

The site and place have significant associations with the Tucker family.
Limestone construction. Double hipped roof. Surrounding verandahs.
In 1901, the Government land purchase board recommended that the northern part of Stirling's Location 41 was unsuitable for agricultural development. The subdivision of 14 acre allotments duly proceeded, and Fred Tucker took up one of the lots. Fred's father William Tucker, was a stonemason, and he built the original house, which is no longer in evidence, just down the river form the existing house. Fred Tucker married Ethel Payne (George's daughter) in c. 1909. In c.1923, Tuckers sold the property to the Dunkley's.

Constructed from 1992, Constructed from 1908
The place has significance as part of the original Stirling Estate, and its associations with Maidments. The home is a fine example of the period of which there are few in the Capel area.
First house site opposite existing, 2nd existing, 3rd west of the first house.
In c1855, large sections of Stirling's Estate were leased to W.J. Roberts and John Scott, and small sections were sublet to younger members of those families. In 1896, William Charles Maidment was a cattle trader working between South Australia and WA when he bought a consignment of horses to Will Ramsay at Minninup. His wife Bessie had been recommended to live near the coast, and in 1907, Maidment bought 640 acres of the former 'Old Capel Farm' (WJ Roberts) from Ted Lang. Maidment renamed the property Peringa and moved into the new (2nd) house in 1908. He bred horses for remounts for the Indian army and had a stud stallion. In 1932, Ron Maidment married Hilda Roberts at Stratham, and he took over his father's lease opposite Peringa, building a cottage called Penola. Peter and Roberta Daley bought the place from the Maidment family. The vets were also horse enthusiasts, and they established a veterinary clinic and kennels on the property. WA competitions of camp drafting trials are conducted at the property, and the cross country course is recognised by the Equestrian Federation of Australia as part of the National circuit.
