The place is aesthetically important for it's architectural character as an attached group of buildings and historically significant for it's former uses as a facility in the main street of the town. The place is socially significant through it's association with former occupants and environmentally important for it's contribution to the main street of the town.

Physical Description

Brick and corrugated iron structure with original shop windows. Built in 1905 and the verandah was added later.

History

The most famous shop in Tambellup for many years. Formerly a hardresser's salon and billiard room, tea rooms and deli. Was also the former premises of the West Australian bank.

The place is aesthetically important for it's architectural characteristics as a corner shop dating from 1922; it is historically important as a former service facility in the town (newsagent and drapery) and of social value for it's association with the local community. Adjacent to the museum is a building known as "The Saddlery"- former general store owned by Nathaniel Phillips.

Statement of Significance

The place is historically important as the Anglican Church in the town and socially significant through association with the Diocese of Bunbury and the Tambellup community. Although the exterior has been modified and altered, the interior is intactin it's original presentation.

Physical Description

Asbestos wall, corrugated iron roof and coloured glass at front creating a distinctive cross shaped window. Significant stand of pine trees to the perimeter of the site. The interior contains toungue and groove jarrah panelling on both the ceiling and the walls and ajrrah floorboards. A new vestry was built in 1950. Renovations were carried out in 1969 whne a porch was added an the original weathreboard walls were replaced with asbestos.

Built 1915 by Arthur Backhouse and blessed by the Lord Bishop Goldsmith of the Diocese.
