This important building has been preserved from the early settlement, by way of being placed in Museum Park. Built as Municipal Chambers it was later used as a Court House. Dr Black used the building as Resident Magistrate. Although called the Courthouse, this was actually its second use as a public building. The building is an example of the use of available materials. Pine may have been imported from Tasmauia as local timbers at that time were not used e.g hardwoods. Early buildings using pine have been lost due to white ants. It is significant that this one has survived.
This is a small square building with the entry through a passageway. It consists of two rooms and is lined with dark stained pine. The sash windows have white china knob fittings. The door and locks are original.
Integrity: All- except chimney which was not built in the old style
Very Good
