This building was originally built by Mrs S Peacock as a General Store in 1899. It was bought by AC Gardiner and extended in approximately 1904. It was taken over by Alf Gillam after World War II. It later became the Stirling Co-op and Mrs Peacock's corrugated iron shop was demolished. Information gained from local sources indicates that the Road Board Office was at one time temporarily housed in the small office to the side of the verandah. Today the shop houses the Stirling Gate Craft and Opportunity Shop, selling local crafts.
The shop was built in three stages - the first stage in 1899. the second in 1904 and the third stage was later. The first shop was a simple corrugated iron building with a small verandah built by Susannah Peacock. In 1904 AC Gardiner built a substantial stone building which extended out the front of the original store. It had a parapet wall and wood turned verandah posts on its facade. Later Mrs Peacock' shop was demolished and the shop front was changed and extended when it became the Stirling Co-op.
