The well has associations with the earliest travellers and settlers in the Muchea area.
Brick lined well with a small manpowered wheel which worked the pump (much like a windmill).
The old pump was situated near the railway station in Muchea. It was a watering place for the horse teams transporting goods to the railway siding. It was also a watering place for the wild brumbies in the area who came at sunset during the drier summer months when the bush water holes had dried up. The pump was refurbished with assistance from the Muchea Progress Recreation and Sporting Association Inc, Tiwest joint venture, Chittering Shire Council, Bob Rado and the Muchea Historic Committee. On 26 June 1993, The Minister for Heritage, Mr Lewis, re-opened the well and commemorative plaque.
