Physical Description

The two storey brick construction with rendered sring courses contrasting the red face brickwork. The frontage extends along two street fronts with the longer side along Berkshire Valley Road. The corner is truncated. The roof is corrugated iron, hipped with a bull nose verandah along the street facades. The verandah extends alond the first floor level forming a covered colonnade at street level. The original columns have been replaced with metal column and the timber balustrade has been infilled with metal sheeting. Part of the verandah has been enclosed along Gardiner Street frontage where the roof features a gable and the remains of a spire.

History

In 1893, the chaff shed on this site was the venue for the first court case in Moora. In 1897, John Brown, formerly the owner of the Waddington Hotel (Victoria Plains) was the owner of the Moora Hotel, which at that time was a galvanised iron shanty. It burnt down in 1906 and the existing building was constructed on that site in 1907. Robert James was the licensee.
