Of historic interest in relation to early social and political life. Architecturally it is an outstanding example of Colonial Gothic style.
Built of local limestone by convict labour. High pitched roofs of she-oak shingles, Dutch gables and finely wrought gothic arches. Walled terrace. Built as an asylum for the insane, later used as an Old Women’s Home, a headquarters of the US Forces in World War II and an annexe of Fremantle Technical School, one of the cells being still in original condition.
