Commercial Building, 201 South Street (extending from 199 to 205) is a single storey brick and Colorbond building dating from 2004. There are large timber framed shop front windows and a suspended metal verandah awning projecting from the façade. The building has a simple undecorated Colorbond parapet.
Prior to 1920 there were only two houses were listed in Post Office Directories between Fifth Avenue and Central Avenue; No. 205 from 1915, occupied by Thomas S.B. Pritchard and No. 199 from 1917 occupied by William J Tout. A store was listed at No. 201 from circa 1925, operated by Henry Clifford. It was run as a grocer by the Mead family from c1931 to c1960. [On file at the Local History Collection is The Mead family tree.] No. 203 was built c1934. In 1970 an application was made for a new shop front at No 201. Later aerial photos show that circa 1975, Nos. 199 & 201 were joined and seem to have been converted to a larger commercial property. It was enlarged to the rear of No. 201 in 1985. In 2001/02 the house at No. 205 was demolished. The complex was redeveloped to the triple shopfront formation of 199-205 South Street in 2004. As at late 2016 the complex is being adjoined to Nos. 207-209.
Condition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).
