26090 Holland/Forrest Street Heritage Area
House, 65 Holland Street is a single storey timber and iron house constructed as a simple variation of the Inter-War Californian Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are painted timber weatherboard. The roof is hipped and gabled and is corrugated iron clad. The front entry porch is under a separate gable and is timber weatherboard clad. The front façade has timber double hung windows. A face brick chimney is evident. Mature plantings partially obscure the house from the street.
The land on which house 65 Holland Street is located was owned by the Workers Home Board. In the 1937/38 a house had been built by the Workers Home Board and was occupied by James Cowan Neil. In 1940/41 the house was still owned by the Workers Home Board and occupied by Samuel William Thomas Hall. In 1950/51 the now State Housing Commission home was occupied by Leith Victor Percy. Aerial photos show that between 1985 and 1995 the house was reroofed, but not extended beyond its original footprint. The house is part of a group of nine houses (51-67) built by the government for public housing between 1930 and 1940 on this part of Holland Street. Nos. 51 and 67 were demolished and rebuilt/heavily modified in the 1970s, but the rest remain largely intact.
