Statement of Significance

The old Durack store is the first and oldest building constructed in the Port Town of Wyndham. It is one of the few buildings of original fabric and building style left in Western Australia. It was also built and run by the Duracks,a famous early pioneering family in the region. It has enormous historic, scientific, aesthetic and social value, not only for Wyndham, but for the entire region.

Physical Description

The building is essentially a barn like construction under a single-gabled roof. Inside, single enormous dressed timber beams run laterally from wall to wall to support the roof. The building material such as nails etc were all hand made. The building an integral part of the proposed heritage precinct of the Port Town.
