The place has aesthetic significance as on open square located of Murray Street Mall. The place has historic significance as one of Perth's most important civic squares. The place has social significance as a meeting place.
Open paved area located between Wellington Street and Murray Street Mall, the General Post Office and retail shops.
Despite the fact that the area lacked the width to claim status as a true city square, Forrest Place was always one of Perth's most important civic squares. In the early days fruit barrows and flower sellers added colour and atmosphere to what was a bustling street. During the Second World War Forrest Place was a recruiting centre and fund raising post for the war effort. Forrest Place is best remembered as a political forum which has resounded to the wit and repartee of some of Australia's most famous political figures. Leaders such as Menzies and Whitlam. Historically the precinct has been used as a meeting place.
Low level of integrity. Medium level of authenticity.
