The site has associations with the settlement of Minninup and early settler families.
After Child of 'Minninup' died in April 1848 (see Ref No 4) , a petition was formed from surrounding land owners and residents for a place of worship, to be built on the north side of Minninup. Work began on the construction of the church, but enthusiasm waned, and it was never completed. The partially constructed church was subsequently dismantled and the materials were used in the construction of the first lock and bridge over the Capel Cut.
