Statement of Significance

The dam is unique in its technological design, being the only one of its type of construction in Australia. It is also significant to Wyndham's main water supply. It is an exceptionally pretty area and a great tourist attraction.

Physical Description

The dam itself is located 1.2 kilometres off the main King River Road, approximately 20 kilometres from the Great Northern Highway. It is an unusual construction of rock and fill designed to allow water to flow through the rocks when the water rises above an acceptable level. The area comprising the dam consists of small lagoons, massive red rock gorges and massive Boab trees.
