The bank is the only art deco style building in Bolgart, and makes a significant contribution to the streetscape and townscape character of the town. It has associations with the Bank of New South Wales for almost 60 years, and with many members of the Bolgart community.
Art deco influences in the frontage of the red brick construction with rendered parapet and truncated corner entrance. The residence attached at the rear of the bank chamber has an entry on the secondary street frontage.
An agency of the Toodyay bank of New South Wales was regularly conducted in Bolgart before the bank building was constructed on the site of a former butcher shop. Jack Waters, the butcher who lived there, sold the building to P.V. Edmonds who relocated it to his farm. The branch opened in Bolgart in 1937, with Norrie James the first manager. In 1995, the Bank of New South Wales closed in Bolgart, and the building is now a private residence.
