01658 Mullewa District Hospital & Quarters
The Nurses' Quarters have some local social significance for their close connection with the adjacent Mullewa District Hospital, and together they form an important health precinct in the town. Built in a complementary style to the Hospital, the quarters are representative of the era of construction and the purpose for which they were built
Located immediately adjacent to the Mullewa District Hospital. the Nurses' Quarters is set back from Elder Street with a lawned area and several trees to the property frontage. The building is of red brick construction. rendered above window sill height with a light cream finish. The hipped tiled roof extends to the front facade to cover a verandah which is supported on timber posts. The southern roofscape is punctuated by two brick chimneys
The original section of the Mullewa District Hospital was constructed in 1934.while the Nurses' Quarters were built in 1953. A commemmorative plaque on the building states: "The building was opened on February 13th, 1953, by the Minister for Works and Water Supply and the Member for Greenough. Hon. David Brand, M.L.A., Minister for Health Dame Cardell-Oliver. D.B.E., M.L.A Contractor,W.H. Ralph & Son. The same builder was also responsilbe for the construction of the 1954 hospital wing.
