Statement of Significance

The place has historic value for its association with James Martin, a blacksmith in Toodyay in the 1860's and the Martin family. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape of Stirling Terrace. The place has social value for its association with the blacksmith trade which was practiced at this location.

Physical Description

A single storey brick and iron cottage with low hipped roof extending out to form the verandah roof. The front and return verandahs have been enclosed with timber and lattice panels and corrugated panels, iron obscuring the front elevation. There are timber framed casement windows on visible side elevation.

History

James Martin was one of only four blacksmiths in Toodyay during the 1860's. He built the cottage in the 1890's and lived there until his death.
