The site is associated with MBC, the materials for brick manufacturing and 'development' of the environment.
Lot 1 (Loc 1352) was pegged as a mineral claim in 1969, by MBC to remove clay. Reserve 24776 No. 2 pit, was pegged in 1969. No 3 pit is an extension of No 2 pit (Lot 1326).
The site is where the convicts camped in the 1860s. Mining commenced on lot 1 in 1969 in conjunction with the Wandena Rd cutting. Most of the clay was stockpiled on lot 1336, and used for brick production over the following ten years. The sequence of clay deposits (Osborne formation) is the only known outcrop in such close proximity to Perth. In 1970, MBC constructed and sealed Wandena Road. Mining commenced at No 2 pit in 1971, in conjunction with the adjoining road cutting. Mining started on No 3 pit in 1989. No 4 pit was started by Whiteman's Bricks in c1975. The land was then transferred from Bond Corp to the Swan Brewery before MBC purchased the property in 1993. It has not been worked since c1988. No 5 pit was initially mined in 1975, and the clay was stockpiled for brick production as for No 1 pit. Limited quantities of clay have been extracted form this pit. Part of No 5 pit was acquired by the Shire of Chittering for waste disposal.
