Physical Description

Small shop adjoining residential dwelling. The shop front is contemporary in design, has a large window alongside a timber frame 5 sectional glass door and is sheltered by a flat boxed suspended verandah awning. Sign writting on the awning is from the most recent occupier ' Balaan & floatsafe'

History

Opened in the 1950’s by George and Winifred Young, the original store was destroyed by fire on Monday 15 June 1953 (1). The community came to their aid by building a large shed for the General store to operate from until the Young Family were able to rebuild the General Store/Post Office. The large shed was then donated back to the community. This building now serves as the Mardella Hall. The General Store/Post Office was sold to Cooper and Dysart.
