History

In June, 1924 a school was opened at Dukin by Rose Crease on the north east corner of Location 6693 by the Wyalkatchem road. The first agitation for a school had started in 1923. In January, 1923 the Department was advised that 4 MacDonalds, 1 Davenport, 2 Boynes and 3 Lockyers were ready for school. When it opened there were ten pupils, later twelve. The four MacDonald children drove six miles to school and were never late. When the two E.S. Inman children joined the school, they had to drive across Lake Cowcowing, from the west, by Denny's Crossing, past Dukin siding and the Boynes. In July, 1924 Robert Gamble, Chairman of the Wyalkatchem Road Board, opened the school officially, at a function in aid of a piano for the school as Rose Crease was a pianist. Elsie Wilkins, Frank Kerr, Martin Phillips and Les Carter gave items on the new piano and Les gave a cornet solo. Phleta Boyne and Mona Lehmann sang, Joe Lockyer gave two violin solos and Ned Inman rendered an item.
