Statement of Significance
Formerly, the place had aesthetic value for its contribution to the Yarloop heritage area. Formerly, the place demonstrated the standard type of housing provided for mill workers by their employers.
Physical Description
Small and simple timber framed dwelling with weatherboard cladding. The gable roof is clad in short sheet corrugated galvanised iron sheeting, painted red. The skillion roof to the canopy is a separate roof, positioned below the eaves and supported on timber columns. One end of the verandah has been enclosed which obscures one of the windows on the façade. the façade is symmetrical with timber framed sash windows flanking the centrally placed timber and glazed door with fanlight above. The windows in the side elevations are timber framed sashes. Destroyed by January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire.
History
One of the timber cottages built in the townsite for the accommodation of workers from the workshops. The houses were built predominantly by the company which owned and managed the town, Millar's Timber and Trading Company from the 1890s to the 1970s. The materials for the cottages were likely to have been manufactured in the workshop and local tradesmen built the homes to a standard design. This building was burnt down by the January 2016 Yarloop/Harvey/Waroona Fire. The Chimney was left standing however has was deemed structurally unsound and was subsequently removed.
