The school has a history of community effort in its establishment, and is valued by generations of students who have attended. It has significant associations with R Erickson, a respected former Bolgart identity.
The school is on an unusual concrete block foundation.
After the hall at the original Bolgart townsite burnt down in 1931, there was no venue for the school, which had been held in the hall. For the next two years, the school was conducted in Arthur Cook's weatherboard cottage known as Honey House. In c1934, a school room was relocated from elsewhere, to the outskirts of the new Bolgart townsite. In 1935, the Parents and Citizens Association was formed when the teacher R. Sandelands (Rica Erickson) called the first meeting. A school teacher's house was built adjacent to the school room in 1941. In 1947, Bolgart and Wattening formed a joint P & C. In 1948, school was being held in the Smith's Store on the corner of George St. In June 1949, a school bus run was introduced, and the children from areas surrounding Bolgart were transported to Bolgart School. The school filled to capacity, and schooling was transferred to a vacant store. In 1951, the existing school was built on land which was formerly part of the "Bulgert' property.
