· The place has historic significance for its association with the orchard industry in Kalamunda which played an important role in the development of the district. · The place has historic significance for its association with:Alfred Hawkins and Anthony Heslop who both made contributions to the local community and the development of the orchard industry in the district. · The place has social significance for its association with the 'Earlswood' orchard which was well known and operated successfully in the district for many years. · The place is a good representative example of a residence built for a leading member of the community in the 1920s.
This late 1920s cottage built of weatherboard, asbestos sheeting and iron roof is an excellent example of a managers home within a commercial orchard. Additions made to the house by the current owner have maintained the integrity of the property.

Good The property on which this residence is now located was originally part of a large commercial orchard known as 'Earlswood'. The orchard was owned by Alfred Hawkins, and later by Anthony Heslop. Both Hawkins & Heslop were members of the Darling Range Road Board. The cottage became the home for Mrs. A. J. Hawkins after the death of her husband in 1943.
