Statement of Significance

The tree is an excellent example of a species which is prolific along road sides in the centre and eastern sections of the Shire. It makes an important contribution to the landscape.

Physical Description

The large native tree is located on the street verge behind (east of the old Baptist Manse)

History

Commonly known as the Salmon Gum (from the pinkish hue of its bark, resembling the colour of the salmon fish) the tree is a member of the Eucalyptus species. Confined to inland Western Australia its habitat extends from within the Woodanilling Shire extending as far west as Kenmare and eastward beyond the shire boundaries. It has largely been cleared from agricultural land and the main remnant specimens appear on road verges, railway and other reserves. It is associated with rich soils suitable for cropping. Its timber is not commercially sought after.
