Statement of Significance

Significant to the history of settlement in the Kimberley region.

Physical Description

The site consists of the ruins of two stone buildings one of which was the homestead and the other the kitchen. The buildings were probably occupied until the 1950s. There is evidence that the homestead was extended at some point. The extension was constructed of timber frame construction on a concrete slab, however materials from this structure have been removed from the site. There are remnants of station machinery in the immediate vicinity of the homestead building.

History

The old homestead on Leopold Downs Station is believed to be the second constructed on the station and to date from the early 1900s.
