Statement of Significance

A fine example of the wealth of one entrepreneurial decade being used to recreate the ambience of the earlier entrepreneurial goldrush period by substantially upgrading a home of the first period in a sympathetic manner. These two eras have had considerable impact on the architecture of the district.

Physical Description

This Edwardian bungalow, 1908, has had an extensive two storey pavilion addition to the rear completely in sympathy with the original house. The original section has a hipped terracotta tile roof finished with ornate ridge-capping and a gablet. The verandahs which extend to the north and west are covered by separate low-pitched hipped roofs. Square chamfered verandah posts are arranged in pairs dr threes at the corners. These are connected by a vestigal valance. The balustrading is square-section. The walls are painted brick. Extensive grounds include tennis court cabana and pool.

History

A brick house was built here by 1908. Fred Stacey lived here 1909. This was the home of David and Topsy Fischer. He was the head of the R&l Bank before becoming high Commissioner to London. He oversaw the expansion of the bank and its support for the arts in the state. Altered by Hewitts 5 or 6 years ago.
