The place demonstrates a way of life. It represents a residential component of the importance of the railway. It is an important character in the townscape.
Timber framed and weatherboard clad with a gambrel hip tiled roof. A verandah with weatherboard dado extends across the frontage, under the main roof. The place is typical of the type and period.
The Kondinin Railway Station was constructed in 1921, and at that time a Stationmaster would have been employed. It was usual practice for the Railways Department to provide accomodation for the Stationmaster. This place is opposite the railway line and the station, and was constructed about the same time as the station. The first Stationmaster was Charlie Allardyce. Allardyce was the Master of Ceremonies for the dances, and was very strict. He also administered first aid, in the absence of a doctor. When the Kondinin branch of the CWA formed in 1924, the meetings were held at the Stationmaster's house until their own rooms were built in Rankin Street (see Ref. No. 20)
