The place is a fine example of the 1890's 'spec' homes initiated by 'Dugite' Layman.
Timber framed and clad cottage with pressed metal ceilings and interior walls. The gable roof extends at break pitch to forma front and rear verandah. Extensions have been added to the rear of the place.
'Dugite' Layman had a number of 'spec' houses built in Capel during the late 1890's. Layman kived in this house until he went on the farm in 1915, at which times Browns purchased the place. Brown was a shoemaker with a shop at Layman's Store. The Bentley's lived there, and then the Houses lived there for some time during the 1950's and 1960's. It is one of the oldest houses in Capel.
