Statement of Significance

The building forms part of the remnant building stock which makes up the historic town's fabric.

Physical Description

Large Californian bungalow style house built c.1920s of brick & tile construction. House is set in significant garden with semi circular lawn, circular driveway, mature trees and rose garden. Front wall is limestone with iron gates (believed to be original wall). Building has cellar under the kitchen area which is accessed from outside. The gardener's one room residence is attached to the rear of the garage.

History

Land once owned by Sir John Forrest in 1907. House built by Sharpes from Mardi Station c.1924. Family important pastoralists & pioneers of north-west and like many north-west families returned to Guildford upon retirement. Property subsequently owned by Dr Clarence Brear in 1933. Purchased in early 1950s by Mr Pollard, secretary to Australian Pensioners' League. Later sold property to the League, hence name 'Pollard Hospital'. Earlier home on site reputed to have been built for Mr E. E. Light, Chief Engineer of Railways who was tragically killed c.1900.
