Physical Description

The timber framed structure was clad with fibro-cement walls and corrugated iron roof.

History

As early as 1915, the settlers in Kwolyin were attempting to establish a school, but ofr lack of student numbers and conflicting uses in the hall were problems. The hall was a popular venue for socials, meetings and dances which had previously taken place at J Ottey's, who had a piano and a wooden floor. On 15th November 1920, the School did open again and it continued to operate in the hall until 1927. A situation in 1925, was caused by the conditions of the hall, the extreme hot and cold and the presence of stickfast flease due to fowls under the hall. A 1943 list of charges for the use of the hall illustrates the range of faciltities offered by the hall; Holding of public worship no charge Temporary use as a school no charge Agricultural & Horticultural Shows 15/- per day Meeting Place: Roads Board, Agricultural, horticultural, Pastoral Societies before sunset 10/- after sunset 12/6 Dance Hall, ballroom, Music Hall banquets, concerts, theatrical before sunset 25/- after sunset 30/- Patriotic Function 10/- after sunset 12/6 Matrimonial Uses before sunset 20/- after sunset 25/-
