Statement of Significance

Historic site of the first inn at the new Serpentine townsite, established along the route of the railway.

Physical Description

History

A wayside inn had been established in the original Serpentine townsite by Richard Baldwin in the townsite, but once the railway had been gazetted the inn was no longer in a premium position. A makeshift inn was therefore used near the railway station until the new hotel was built in 1903.
