House, 45 Hampton Road is a single storey brick and tile house designed in the Inter-War Californian Bungalow style of architecture. The walls are painted brick. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with tiles, and has exposed rafters. There are two face brick chimneys with a chimney pot evident. The front elevation has a central front door with fan light and timber framed windows under the main gable verandah roof. There is another set of timber framed casement windows with lead lights on the front elevation, with a tiled awning over, which continues from the main roof. The verandah tiled roof is supported by rendered piers and a half wall brick balustrade. The house sits above street level on a limestone foundation. There is a rendered and timber fence to the front boundary line.
The street derives its name from John Stephen Hampton, the Governor from 1862-68, previously Comptroller of Convicts in Tasmania. His son, G. E. Hampton, was Acting Comptroller-General of the Fremantle Convict Establishment. The 1934-35 ratebook shows Lot 1 of 719 was vacant land owned by the Homes Board War Service, and Lot 2 of 719 was vacant land owned by Edward Higham. The 1939-40 rate book shows new owners George and Alice Waller. Lot 1 of 719 remained vacant and Lot 2 of 719 now had a residence.
High degree of integrity (original intent clear, current use compatible, high long term sustainability). High degree of authenticity with much original fabric remaining. (These statements based on street survey only).
Condition assessed as good (assessed from streetscape survey only).
