26090 Holland/Forrest Street Heritage Area
House, 49 Forrest Street has a single storey timber framed house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are weatherboard clad until sill height and flat fibrous cement sheeting above. There is a projecting front room that has a gabled roof. The roof is gabled and hipped and Zincalume clad. The front verandah is supported by square timber posts between timber criss-cross balustrading. There is a rendered masonry wall with timber picket infills to the front boundary.
The house was first listed in Post Office Directories in 1902 with William Graham as resident. Numbers were allocated in 1905, at which time the house was No. 142. It became number 49 when the whole street was renumbered in 1939. Mrs Louisa Graham lived at No 49 from c1914 until c1940, followed by a new owner, Harold Burford, who was there until at least 1949 (when directory records cease). The 1914 sewerage map (No. 2118) shows a weatherboard house with a half-length front verandah on the west side, and the same at the rear of the house. There are several galvanised iron outbuildings on the lot. Aerial photos show that between 1995 and 1999 another house was built on the rear portion of the lot.
