bakery & shop Other uses: 2nd hand store Current Use: tearooms Description: The timber framed construction is weatherboard clad with some sections clad with fibro cement sheets. The corrugated iron roof is gabled with an apex detail on the front gable facade, which is clad with sheets of flat iron. A bull nose verandah extends along the street frontage and is supported by square timber columns. The place has a double shop frontage. The northern shop front has a central recessed door, while the other frontage has a door on the southern most side. The shop front glazing is detailed in rectangular panels. It is claimed that a scotch oven is still on site.

History

Balinsky opened the bakery on this site in 1914? The presence of a baker in town was considered advantageous, and over the years the community of Kulin have supported business endeavours by bakers, in order to retain the facility. The bakery closed in 1977, after the original bakehouse had been demolished in 1967. Since then the place has been a second-hand store and has recently been refurbished and opened as a tearooms.
