The cemetery is an important site for the local community, providing a link with past citizens. It was the second cemetery for Kalgoorlie.
The cemetery is located on the western outskirts of the townsite of Kalgoorlie. The cemetery has vehicular access off Memorial Drive/Lyall Street via iron gates with rendered masonry pillars.
The first Kalgoorlie Cemetery Board was established in 1895 (Webb, 1993: 719). The Crematorium was opened on 11 September 1988 (Webb, 1993: 879).
