11455 Karlgarin Townsite - site
The place demonstrates a way of life, the place is integral within the streetscape and character of the townscape.
The painted brick building has a verandah to three sides. The main roof is gabled with the gable feature to the front. The verandah is a considerably lower pitched roof supported by square timber posts on a brick foundation with a concrete verandah floor. The building scale, proportion and gable frontage and verandah responds to other places in Melba street which runs parallel with the railway line, and is opposite the siding site.
In 1929, the Karlgarin CWA formed with only eight members. It closed in 1933 and reformed in 1937. In 1944, Mrs Stafford requested land for the purpose of building the CWA rooms. In 1949, Mrs Harriet Munday laid the foundation stone on the CWA rest rooms. The Doctor took up surgery in the rooms after first using a private home. Still used.
