Statement of Significance

Historic and scientific significance for the use of superphosphate for pasture improvement, and the development of a large dairy farm, The Kentish family have made a significant contribution to the Serpentine community.

Physical Description

Homestead in Victorian Georgian style, symmetrical with high-pitched hipped roof and separate skillion veranda in spreading form. Set down a long driveway amongst established trees and (date) palms, and adjacent to Dirk Brook on the coastal plain below the escarpment.

History

A large property originally built by the Ball family. In 1926, Bolinda Vale was purchased by EA (Ted) Kentish and his wife Edith, when they came with their children Lance, Clem and 2 girls from South Australia. Bolinda Vale held the biggest milk quota in the state in 1960. Lance Kentish was instrumental in the establishment of Karnup Prison Farm. In 1977 preference changed from Dairy to Beef farming. Clem Kentish played a large part in local politics with Serpentine Jarrahdale Road Board/Shire from 1940
