This place is significant for its social, cultural and spiritual associations and makes an important contribution to the streetscape.
Rendered brick building of traditional design (modelled on a Russian example) with complex corrugated iron metal roof of multiple gables surmounted by an onion shaped dome of glass reinforced plastic supporting a metal cross. The main entrance porch has a gabled parapet over the entrance archway on which are featured two mosaics of saints flanked on gilded cross.
This Church, based on an existing church in a Siberian village, is the only Russian Orthodox Church in Perth and serves all suburbs, not only Bayswater. The Russian Orthodox congregation sprang from the displaced people of Russian and Eastern European origin, who began to arrive in Perth in the years following the Second World War. Land in Baywater was acquired because it was cheap, but building could not commence immediately and the Anglican Church offered its hall as temporary accommodation. The congregation set about building its own weatherboard and asbestos structure which was completed in 1952. In the spirit of Post War self help building, even the children pitched in. That church served until 1990 and is commemorated by a cross on the site of its alter. The present structure was completed in 1991.
