Statement of Significance

The first hotel was built in 1894 when the railway first came through town. It was used by railway workers because it was in the centre of Railway Town. Burnt down in 1911, it was rebuilt the same year. It became a popular place for people to meet after work and the meals served were appreciated, particularly by single workers. It is still a popular meeting place for workers.

Physical Description

The Tavern is a two-storey brick building with rectangular wooden-framed windows. Originally there were balconies which have since been removed. The rear has been modified over the years with additions made from corrugated iron.
