The place has aesthetic value for its use of classical architectural detailing in pleasing proportions which creates visual interest. The place is a landmark in Burt Street.
A small single-storey building built to the building line of Burt Street. The exterior of the building features a stuccoed facade enhanced by a decorative stuccoed parapet. The facade is divided into two bays by pilasters that extend to an entablature and the top of the parapet. Sill mouldings extend across the front elevation.
Documentary Evidence: The Insurance Plans for Boulder c. 1900 illustrate that the Bank of NSW (a brick building with a front verandah) was located on Part Lot 63. Boulder's Hidden Secrets (1993) state that the address of the Bank of NSW was 27 Burt Street. The Bank of NSW opened on 13 November 1899. With the amalgamation of the Western Australian Bank and the Bank of NSW on 29 March 1927, the Boulder branch of the Western Australian Bank was combined with the Wales branch. The branch was closed on 2 November 1942 (Boulder's Hidden Secrets, 1993). General Comments: During the 1890s and particularly in the early 1900s, Boulder's population swelled by a steady influx of men seeking employment in the goldfields and somewhere to settle. This increase in population had a great influence on the town's growth. It necessitated the survey of more town and suburban lots, increased subsidies for road construction and numerous buildings were constructed.
