Physical Description

95 Holland Street is a single storey masonry and iron house constructed as a simple variation of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are painted brick. The roof is hipped and corrugated iron clad. A return verandah is under a separate corrugated iron roof. A tall painted brick chimney is evident. The view of the place is obscured by mature plantings and a high face brick front boundary fence.

History

This Workers Homes Board House was built in 1914/15 and first occupied by William Alex Brown. Brown lived in the house until the 1927. After this there is a variety of occupants, suggesting the place was a rental. Lily Brown was the owner from the 1930s up to the mid-1940s. The 1914 Sewerage Plan (No 2118) shows a brick house with a half-length front verandah that wraps around the west side and along the rear. There is a detached wash house at the rear on the east side of the lot. There is a garage and other outbuildings in the rear of the yard on the west side. The house on Lot 1568 was originally number 166, and became number 95 when the whole street was renumbered in 1937.
