The Kojonup Co-op has historic and social significance to the Kojonup community having been run by the community and providing much needed provisions and services from this location since the early 20th century.
The current Co-op was built in 2009 but on the site of the old Co-op buildings.
In 1924, additions were made to the first co-op store. The Kojonup Co-Op was officially formed in 1946 with P. P. Thom as chairman until 1965. The original store had a smaller frontage with a residence on the south end that also opened into the store. In 1953, the Co-Op was significantly enlarged and modernised. The Co-Op expanded to include Witt’s Butcher, and Martin’s Linga Longa tearooms on the Jones Street corner, and Lebeaters narrow lollie shop south of the residence. The original Co-Op, which fronted Albany Highway, burnt down in February 2009.
