Statement of Significance

This residence has aesthetic and historic cultural heritage significance. It is possibly a remnant from the days when this area was essentially rural when many dairies and piggeries existed, The house has a number of architectumI features reminiscent of the federation era that are valued by today's community.

Physical Description

This painted limber house is on the south east corner of Portland and Karella Streets, with a bush timber fence to the Karella side. The house has horizontal weather boarding and a corrugated iron roof and is a simple farm house style. There is a brick chimney on the south side gable. The house has been slightly altered and extended to the north. There are also newer extensions [0 the east. These have been carried our illtimber. in a similar manner to the original. The basic form of the house js rectangular with a verandah to the west with simple limber posts and beam construction. The windows are vertical sliding sash: six large panes to each, The entry into tile house is at the centre orthe north side.

History

A former owner of this house thought it was one of the early (arm houses of the district. This is possible as there were a nnmbcr of dairies and piggcrics in this mea.
