Largely intact example of country school of early 1900s. Focal point of social life of Carmel community for over 75 years. Formerly Heidelberg School. Name changed during WW1 to Carmel School. TB Millar head teacher in 1913. Closed 1990.
Single storey, one room weatherboard school building (typical style from beginning of 20th century), with corrug. iron roof, on timber stumps. Bitumen surfaced area at rear, grass field alongside.

Integrity: Good Modifications: Orig. one room school &. accommodation for teacher. In 1905, partition between classroom & teacher's quarters was removed when a house (since demolished) was built alongside. Power connected 1945.
