Statement of Significance

An interesting early bungalow in excellent condition creating an streetscape with a number of other old a homes in the immediate vicinity.

Physical Description

This house stands on the opposite corner of Lillian Street to no 44. It is an Edwardian Bungalow with a terracotta gabled roof broken-back over the verandahs. The gables are half timbered with prominent bargeboards but no finials. Gablets east and west are louvred to facilitate the flow of air through the roof space. The tapered verandah posts have fretted brackets on either side, no frieze. Twelve light baywindows - six casement below and six smaller above pierce the tuckpointed red brick. Unusually there is a battered limestone wall under each of the bay windows. The lower lights are in clear glass, the lights above have swagged stained glass. The unusual front door with oval lights has stained glass in the lights above the front door and two oval lights on either side of it. A half porthole window has a corbelled window sill. Both baywindows have corbelled windowsills as well. The verandah is cement on a stone base. There is a string course of stucco at window sill height. The chimneys are tall and plain covered with pebbledash and a brick coping. Attached to the back of the house is another section screened off from the front by a solid brick wall. This encloses a large garage. The front gardens are small and formal. The brick piers with wrought iron railing between are of more recent date and detract from the overall appearance.
