The place is significant for the following values: Historic Value: The former school site has historical significance as a site commemorating the 1893 Ferguson State School.
A small commemorative area set aside on Ferguson Road. The area consists of timber pole fencing, a painted timber dedication post and lintel "1893 Ferguson School Site 1971" and a granite block in sandstone crazy pouring with dedication plaque "Upper Ferguson School Site. This school was first opened on 1 January 1893. Settlers assisted with finance and labour to build the school which closed on 17 December 1971. This plaque is presented to past and present citizens of the Ferguson Valley on this day 2 January 1993 by Members of the Dardanup Lions Club."
The school was built in 1893 and when it closed in December 1971 the schoolhouse and land were sold. During this time the teachers were Ms A. A. Buchanan (1893), Miss B. E. Gilmore (1894), Mr M. J. Odeo (1895) and Miss Odeo (1898). There was an earlier school on Loc. 136 near the existing church and the back room of the old church was also used as a schoolroom. It is though the first teachers were convicts: Mr Carmichal, Mrs S. A. Gardener (1869) and Miss Amy Gardener (1873). As the school had only a small enrolment it was moved to upper Ferguson in 1877. The Annual Report 1878 makes mention of Ferguson Upper Provisional School. In 1879, on achieving full public school status and being the only school at Ferguson, the directional adjective 'Upper' was no longer used. The school was closed in 1885 and the building transferred to Binningup. This may be when children were taught in the church building.
