Statement of Significance

The site demonstrates a way of life, and associations with the early settlers.

History

EJ Mellows surveyed the Karlgarin townsite, reserve, and government dam site to fit with the railway plan when it was finally decided. The townsite was resumed form S Cottle's property. The Karlgarin townsite was established in direct relationship to the railway siding even though the Karlgarin Hill community was already established. The town blocks were auctioned on 8 august 1931 at Kondinin, and 14 of the 64 lots offered were sold.
