A large stately home built c.1900. The house has major modifications including a tiled roof and new windows in the mid 20th century. The property contains a well of local significance to the rear. Land was originally owned by the Devenish Inn (at 10 James Street) and used for brewing beer.
George and Ellen Withnell lived at Hillside Station at Shaw River before retiring to Guildford. Built stately home at 4 James Street named 'Myaree', later moved to Headington on the corner of Irvine and Vern Street, Cottesloe. They had 11 children. Building was later used by Nurse Elizabeth as a hospital. George Withnell's mother, Emma Withnell of Mount Welcome Station Roebourne, was believed to have been first white woman in the north west. Emma and husband John Withnell retired to Guildford in 1890. This home has very large rooms, while the large front door has good original coloured lead lights. The front of the home was reconstructed in 1960/70s due to bad cracking. The windows have been altered.
