The rendered brick, timber, concrete and shingled tile roof, in PostWar Georgian Revival style, has cultural significance because: its association with prominent businesspeople Harry Boan, Garrick Agnew and Robert Holmes A'Court; it illustrates the influence of post war North American trends on certain groups in Australia; it is a PostWar place established for captains of cormnerce and to suit their social activities.
The choice of style for a large post war place illustrates both conservativism and the influence of post war North American trends on Australia.
The place has been owned by a succession of successful WA businessmen: It was built originally for Harry Boan of Boans Ltd, one of Western Australia's best known and successful retailers. It was then owned by Garrick Agnew, a mining enterpreneur and swimming champion. The place was then owned by Robert Holmes A'Court, a spectacularly successful businessman of the 1980s. Considerable historical significance.
The place is a professionally competent example of its style and period.
