Statement of Significance

The place represents a type of settlement, an occupation, a way of life, and associations with the early settlers of the area. The place contributes to the streetscape and unique townscape that is Yealering.

Timber framed and fibro clad with a corrugated iron roof. The single room gable fronted shop is aligned with the pavement, and a verandah extends to the roads edge.

History

Bob Wells built the bakers shop and the house section was relocated from the goldfields. It is one of the first buildings in Yealering, and the bakery. He also built the large brick oven which is still insitu in the back yard. Wells baked bread for many years, and then Laurie Parker purchased the Bakery and employed an old French baker who made lots of fancy breads and pastries as well as the bread. Wilf Wood was the last baker, also employed by Parker who continued to own the place until it closed in 1948. The Post Office was relocated to this site at that time, and operated for many years until it was re-located at the Co-op in about 1985. The place is now a residence.
