26090 Holland/Forrest Street Heritage Area
House, 108 Holland Street is a single storey masonry and iron house constructed as a simple variation of the Victorian Georgian style of Architecture. The walls are painted brick. The roof is hipped with exposed timber rafters and corrugated iron clad. The front verandah sits under an extension of the main corrugated iron roof, although at a different pitch. The verandah is supported by timber posts with decorative timber brackets. The symmetrical front façade has a central entry door and double hung timber windows symmetrically placed on either side. A single face brick chimney is evident. The place has a face brick and iron palisade front boundary fence.
Twelve houses Holland Street (Nos. 90-112) were all built by 1902. Lot 1392 was vacant in 1900. In 1901 a house was built for Helena Benthein who also lived there. By 1909/10 John Vincent was the owner/occupier. Herman Henry Benthien was the owner in 1920/21 to the late 1940s and had several tenants in that period. Numbers were allocated in 1905. The house was originally number 183, and became number 108 when the whole street was renumbered in 1937. The 1914 Sewerage Plan (No 2118) shows that the brick house had a full length front verandah and a half-length verandah at the back, noted as enclosed.
